Welcome to the Ward Three Democratic Committee

The Ward Three Democratic Committee is comprised of political and community activists who care about the future of Washington, D.C. and look to the political system as a way to build a better city for all of its residents.  A grassroots local political organization, the Committee seeks to create an inviting environment for the discussion of political and community issues of concern to local Democrats.  The Ward Three Democratic Committee is a vehicle for registered Democrats in Ward 3 to be active and join collegially with fellow Democrats to advance the agenda and mission of the Democratic Party.

The Committee meets a minimum of five times annually.  The Committee holds special community education programs; discussion forums on key issues; and considers advocacy resolutions.  Speakers  have included DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh, and DC Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi.

  ••• MISSION •••

The mission of the Ward Three Democratic Committee is to support and elect Democratic candidates for local and national office; and to provide a forum for Democratic voters in Ward 3 and the community as a whole to discuss issues affecting our community.  The Committee seeks to organize and mobilize voters in Ward 3 to register as Democrats and to actively participate in a grassroots organization committed to the election of Democratic candidates at all levels of government in DC, in the regional metropolitan area, and across the country.

The Ward Three Democratic Committee works closely with local elected officials to encourage accountability and good government practices.

Voting on official actions by the Ward 3 Democratic Committee is limited to elected Precinct and At-Large Delegates. Each of the 17 precincts in Ward 3 elects 6 delegates bi-annually at a precinct caucus of all registered Democrats in that precinct, and 15 At-Large delegates are elected by the Committee. These delegates along with the elected members of the DC Democratic State Committee from Ward 3 make up the voting membership of the Ward 3 Democratic Committee.
